Contributing to Engineering Designer
Engineering Designer has a wide ranging readership comprising engineering and product designers, who are both practitioners and educationalists with various and quite different backgrounds, working in a variety of industries and educational establishments, as well as within the public sector. Clare Swaffer, the Editor, welcomes contributions from members and non members on a variety of topics covering and related to engineering design both past, present and future.
Subjects that have been covered recently in the Journal include the
London Design Festival, new product development using focus group
techniques, the work of SETNET in the community, BS8888, medical
product design, product lifecycle management and protecting
intellectual property.
Don’t be put off by the fact that you have never written a piece for publication before – the Journal’s editorial team is only too glad to help. We can provide advice or even more practical assistance, such as actually helping to write the final article.
Potential features are usually discussed by the editorial board before being included in the magazine, so it may be a month or two before you see your name in print!
Editorial Guidance for Feature Articles
You can submit an article in one of two ways: either by first sending an abstract of around 200 words explaining what the proposed feature will be about or by submitting the full article on spec. Features can be any length but preferably not more than 2000 words.
If you are able to supply images with your piece then all the better - sketches, line drawings, photographs, diagrams, charts and so on help to break up the text and make the article more readable on the page.
Anyone wishing to contribute an article to Engineering Designer should contact the Editor, Clare Swaffer either by email: editorial@engineeringdesigner.co.uk or telephone: 01795 542435.
Guidance for news items and press releases
All press releases on new products, design/technical books for review, news of forthcoming events etc should also be sent to the Editor.
